PUBLIC CHARGING

Common questions about setting up and using the public-charging, including remote locking, climate control, charging, and troubleshooting.

What is public charging?
  • Public charging is any charging that takes place away from your home. Use your vehicle infotainment system or Vehicle Remote App to locate charging locations when travelling.

For greater convenience, sign up to the Public Charging Service to access an extensive network of charging locations using one Charging Card, one app and a single monthly invoice.¹

Where can I charge?
  • The Public Charging Service provides access to an extensive network of charge points across the UK and Europe.

Use your Vehicle Remote App to locate and filter charging locations and view real-time charge point status and availability.

What is the Public Charging Service?
  • The Public Charging Service provides convenient access to public charging locations across the UK and Europe.

Through our partner, Digital Charging Solutions, you can locate charge points from your Vehicle Remote App or from within your vehicle and access participating charging networks using your Charging Card. Charging activity is consolidated into a single monthly invoice.¹

How do I sign up for the Public Charging Service?
  • The Public Charging Service can be accessed through the subscriptions section of your Vehicle Remote App.

During sign-up, you will create a charging contract and select your preferred charging tariff.¹

Once your contract has been created, you will receive a complimentary Charging Card, providing access to participating charge points across the UK and Europe. If you do not receive a Charging Card, you can request one at no additional cost.

How do I pay for charging?
  • Choose your preferred charging tariff when setting up your Public Charging Service account. Charging activity is then combined into a single monthly invoice.¹

Some charge point operators may also offer alternative payment methods, such as contactless payment or their own charging services. Use the location view in your Vehicle Remote App to view available payment and access methods before charging.

How do I change my charging tariff?
  • Account and contract management can be accessed through the subscriptions section of your Vehicle Remote App.

From here, you can view available tariff options and make changes through the account dashboard. Any tariff changes will take effect at the end of the current billing period.¹

How long does it take to charge?
  • Charging times vary depending on several factors, including:

    - The type of charger being used (AC or DC)

    - The power output of the charge point

    - The current battery charge level

    - Battery temperature and environmental conditions

Higher-powered DC chargers generally provide faster charging than AC chargers.

What should I do if a charger is not working?
  • If you experience an issue with a charge point, contact the charge point operator directly using the contact details displayed on the charger or available through your Vehicle Remote App.

If your issue relates to your charging account, Charging Card or billing, please contact Digital Charging Solutions using the support information available within your charging account.

Which cables do I need?
  • Your vehicle may support both Type 2 (AC) and CCS (DC) charging connections.

Type 2 charging is typically used for home and destination charging. Most Type 2 charge points require you to use your own charging cable, which is supplied with your vehicle.

CCS charging is typically available at rapid and ultra-rapid charging locations. These charge points provide their own integrated cable.

Your Vehicle Remote App provides information about charger types and connection compatibility.

What is the difference between AC and DC charging?
  • AC (Alternating Current) charging is commonly used for home and destination charging. AC power is supplied to the vehicle and converted into DC power by the vehicle's onboard charger before being stored in the battery.

DC (Direct Current) charging delivers power directly to the battery, bypassing the onboard charger. This enables significantly higher charging speeds and is commonly used at rapid and ultra-rapid public charging locations.

Can I charge at a Tesla Supercharger?
  • Some Tesla Supercharger locations are available to compatible non-Tesla electric vehicles.

Please refer to the Tesla charging website for the latest information on compatible locations, vehicle eligibility and charging instructions.

Visit JLR Charging website for more details.

What is a Charging Card?
  • A Charging Card is used to start and stop charging sessions at participating charging locations.

Your complimentary Charging Card is linked to your Public Charging Service account and provides access to supported charging networks across the UK and Europe.

My Charging Card is lost or stolen. What should I do?
  • If you no longer have access to your Charging Card, you can order a replacement through the subscriptions section of your Vehicle Remote App.

Any applicable replacement fee will be shown before the order is confirmed.

I cannot charge using my previous Charging App or Charging Card. What should I do?
  • Previous charging services may no longer be supported.

To access the Public Charging Service, go to the subscriptions section of your Vehicle Remote App, create a charging contract, select a tariff and activate your Charging Card.

Once your account is active, you can access participating charging networks and receive a single monthly invoice for your charging activity.¹

What is pre-authorisation and how does it work?
  • A pre-authorisation is a temporary hold placed on a specified amount of your credit card, debit card or PayPal account when you begin charging or order a new Charging Card.

The amount is reserved but not charged. Once the final payment has been processed, the pre-authorisation is automatically released.

Please refer to your charging account for the current pre-authorisation amount.

There are additional fees for my charging session that are not shown in the app.
  • Not all charging fees may be displayed in the Vehicle Remote App.

Before charging, please review the full pricing information available within the Public Charging Service account dashboard.¹

Can I remotely start or stop a public charging session using the app?
  • Remote start and stop functionality for public charging sessions is not currently available within the Vehicle Remote App.

In the meantime, charging sessions can be started and stopped using the complimentary Charging Card provided during sign-up.

We are actively working to introduce this capability in a future release and will communicate availability through our official customer channels
