Our experiences are carefully structured to maximise your time behind the wheel, combining practical driving with personalised instruction from a Land Rover Experience Product Expert. As you progress, you'll have the opportunity to tackle a wider variety of terrain, obstacles and driving scenarios.

Our Six Hour Experiences run from 09:00 to 16:00 and include a one-hour lunch break, allowing time to relax, and reflect on the morning's driving. The remainder of the day is dedicated to developing your skills and exploring more challenging terrain.

Longer experiences offer more driving time, greater flexibility to tailor the day to your interests, and the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of advanced off-road technologies and capabilities.

Your Land Rover Experience includes everything you need for an exceptional day of off-road driving. Gift certificates are flexible and can be redeemed against a range of experiences. For example, if a Defender Experience gift certificate has been purchased but the recipient would prefer a Range Rover or Discovery Experience, they can simply use the value of their certificate towards their chosen experience. If the selected experience costs more than the value of the gift certificate, they can pay the difference at the time of booking.

Yes, most of our Experience vehicles are automatic, so you can take part with a full, valid automatic driving licence.

Please note: Defender Heritage Experiences are conducted in manual transmission vehicles. To participate in a Heritage Experience, you must hold a full, valid manual driving licence that entitles you to drive a manual vehicle in the UK.

Most experiences are conducted in a single vehicle. However, guests booking a Six Hour Experience may have the opportunity to drive more than one vehicle, subject to vehicle availability and the day's programme.

Yes, all experiences include a dedicated Land Rover Experience Product Expert who are all trained instructors. They provide one-to-one guidance throughout, helping you develop skills and confidence safely.

Capacity varies depending on the experience and vehicle booked:

· One Hour Experiences – up to 2 participants (drivers and/or passengers)

· Three and Six Hour Experiences – up to 3 participants (drivers and/or passengers)

For the Defender Young Off-Roader Experience, up to 2 young drivers can take part and must be accompanied by an adult.

Children can attend from the age of six using their own seat, which must be fitted by the parent/guardian. We ask that you contact the Experience Centre in advance to confirm this will be possible for your Driving Experience. 

For younger guests who want to get behind the wheel themselves, we also offer the Defender Young Off-Roader Experience. Designed for children aged 11 to 17 years old, participants can drive a real Defender under the guidance of a fully qualified Land Rover Experience Product Expert. Drivers must be at least 1.45 metres (145cm) tall to safely reach and operate the vehicle controls.

Families can also enjoy the Defender Family Adventure, a shared off-road experience designed to bring families together while exploring the capability of Defender in the stunning surroundings of Highland Perthshire. Available for up to three drivers, with a minimum of one adult participant, it's a great way for families to share the adventure and create lasting memories with expert guidance throughout the journey.

The nearest railway station is Dunkeld & Birnam, located approximately 10 minutes by car from Land Rover Experience Scotland at Butterstone Loch. Registered assistance dogs are welcome, and if you require an assistance dog or have specific accessibility requirements, please contact the centre before your visit so that appropriate arrangements can be discussed and made. Please note that assistance dogs cannot be accommodated within Experience vehicles.

To make the most of your Land Rover Experience, please bring your driving licence, wear suitable outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear, and arrive ready to enjoy the experience.

Before your visit, you'll receive an email containing an online disclaimer and instructions on how to complete a driving licence check, which must be completed in advance. On arrival, your Land Rover Experience Product Expert will welcome you and provide a comprehensive safety briefing before introducing you to the vehicle and the day's activities.

While most of your experience will be spent behind the wheel, many guests also enjoy stepping out at selected locations throughout the course to watch the vehicle tackle obstacles, take photographs and videos, and capture memorable moments from the day. These stops provide excellent opportunities to appreciate the terrain, learn more about the vehicle's capabilities, and share your experience with friends and family afterwards.

As conditions can be muddy and the ground uneven in places, we recommend dressing appropriately for the weather and bringing layers if required. Your Product Expert will advise you throughout the experience and ensure you're fully prepared to enjoy everything the experience has to offer.

Wear practical outdoor clothing and sturdy, closed-toe footwear.

Conditions may be muddy and uneven, so layers and waterproof clothing are recommended. 

For your safety and comfort, wellington boots, flip-flops, sandals, and other open-toe footwear are not suitable for the experience.

Experiences run in most weather conditions, and many guests find that wet and muddy terrain enhances the off-road adventure. In the event of extreme weather that may affect safety, our team will contact you directly.

Yes, you're welcome to take photos and videos during your Experience, provided it is safe to do so.

Your Land Rover Experience Product Expert will be able to point out great photo opportunities throughout the day and can advise on the best locations to capture your experience and the vehicle in action. If you'd like to stop for a photo or video, simply let your Product Expert know and they'll help identify a suitable time and place where it is safe to do so.

Land Rover Experience Scotland has a dedicated spectator area for Young Off-Roader Experiences, allowing parents and guardians to safely watch participants during their session.

For all other experiences, there is no designated spectator area, and non-participating guests are not permitted to follow vehicles around the course.

However, participants will have opportunities throughout their experience to safely leave the vehicle at selected locations. These stops allow you to watch the vehicle tackle particularly challenging obstacles, learn more about the terrain and vehicle technology, and capture photos and videos of your experience.

Many guests enjoy these moments as a chance to appreciate the capability of the vehicle from a different perspective, as well as create lasting memories to share with friends and family. Your Land Rover Experience Product Expert will advise on the best opportunities for viewing, photography and filming during the day, ensuring it is done safely and without impacting the experience.

Yes. Accompanying guests are welcome to use our indoor waiting area, located within the reception building. Please note that the reception building is situated approximately 4 miles from the off-road course, so it is not possible to view driving activities from this location.

Yes, baby changing facilities are available within the centre for guest use.

Their role is to build confidence, develop skills and ensure each participant progresses at a pace that suits their age, ability and previous experience.

The experience is tailored to the individual. For first-time drivers, the focus may be on basic vehicle control, steering, braking and building confidence behind the wheel. More confident participants may progress to increasingly challenging terrain and driving exercises, developing their understanding of vehicle capability and off-road techniques.

Young drivers will tackle a variety of off-road features, which may include hills, uneven ground, mud, side slopes and other obstacles, depending on conditions and their level of experience. Throughout the session, the Product Expert will adapt the route and challenges to ensure the experience is safe, engaging and rewarding, while helping young drivers develop new skills and confidence behind the wheel.

The experience lasts approximately 60 minutes, including a briefing and driving time.

All vehicles are fitted with dual controls, allowing the Product Expert to intervene immediately if required. 

Whether a young driver is getting behind the wheel for the very first time or already has some driving experience, the route and terrain will be adapted to suit their needs and confidence level. BORDA Qualification

Improve fleet reliability and minimise vehicle damage through industry-recognised training. BORDA courses focus on the safe use of off-road equipment and techniques, including winching, ground reading, vehicle recovery and vehicle maintenance.
