WHAT IS PHEV?

Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles are often shortened to hybrid or, to distinguish them from mild-hybrid vehicles, PHEV.

  • POWER

    By combining an internal combustion engine with an electric motor for optimal efficiency and performance, PHEV delivers the best of both technologies.

  • REFINED

    PHEV delivers a virtually silent drive in full electric vehicle (EV) mode and, for optimal refinement, ensures a seamless transition between the petrol engine and electric motor.

  • ELECTRIC

    How you want to drive is up to you. Simply select the default driving mode, combining petrol and electric drive, or opt for the full electric drive of EV (Electric Vehicle) mode.

  • UNCOMPROMISING

    When it comes to capability and performance, PHEV is precise and uncompromising and is fully capable of handling off-road situations such as wading1 or deep snow.

ELECTRIC REAR WHEEL DRIVE

Electric Rear Wheel Drive is available on Range Rover Evoque and Discovery Sport.

INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE

These plug-in hybrid vehicles have an internal combustion engine and an electric motor on the rear axle. The addition of an electric motor allows the engine to combine exceptional driving characteristics with increased fuel efficiency. When the battery charge is low, the engine will drive the front wheels.

HIGH VOLTAGE BATTERY

Plug-in hybrid vehicles have a high voltage battery that can be charged from an external supply. It holds enough charge for a practical electric-only driving range. The battery is also used during hybrid driving, when the engine and the electric motor work together.

ELECTRIC MOTOR/DRIVETRAIN

An electric motor is fitted to the rear axle which delivers instantly accessible torque to the rear wheels. It can also charge the high voltage battery through regenerative braking.

INTELLIGENT CONTROLLER

The vehicle decides the most efficient use of fuel to suit the driving conditions, such as allowing you to drive cross-city with just the electric motor. When more power is needed, the engine combines with the electric motor for a hybrid All-Wheel Drive experience.

INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE

These plug-in hybrids combine an internal combustion engine with an electric motor to give improved driving performance with increased fuel efficiency.

HIGH VOLTAGE BATTERY

Plug-in hybrid vehicles have a high voltage battery that can be charged from an external power supply. It holds enough charge for a practical electric-only driving range and is used for hybrid driving when the electric motor supplements the engine.

The electric motor converts the energy from the battery to produce instantly accessible torque to all wheels. It can also charge the battery pack through regenerative braking.

INTELLIGENT CONTROLLER

With a small electric-only driving range, plug-in hybrids are able to cross cities without using fuel. The vehicle decides the most efficient use of fuel to suit the driving conditions. When more power is needed, the engine will switch on and combine with the electric motor for a hybrid All-Wheel Drive experience.

HOME CHARGING

Our PHEV range can fully charge from either a domestic socket or an IEC connector. It is ideally suited to charge overnight, fully recharging in as little as 7.5 hours. Installing and using a wall box can reduce charging times closer to 2.75 hours2.

  • HOME CHARGING POINTS

    A professionally-installed home charging point is more powerful than a domestic socket and can fully charge Range Rover in as little as 2 hours. The government’s Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme can also save you £500 off the installation cost.

  • Cable plugged into the Domestic 3-pin plug socket

    DOMESTIC 3-PIN SOCKET

    The standard 3-pin plug socket you typically use for your electric household items will keep Range Rover topped up by simply plugging in your charge cable. A full charge will normally take up to 7 hours.

PUBLIC CHARGING

Charging Range Rover away from home is now easier than ever thanks to thousands of public charging stations across the UK. Although some charge points are free to use, the majority require payment via a mobile app, membership or contactless card.

Capable of giving you a full charge in about 2 hours, standard public charge points use your vehicle’s Mode 2 cable – the same as your home charging point.

Available as a desktop and mobile application, Zap-Map helps you plan the perfect journey by showing all the charge points compatible with Range Rover across the UK. Ensuring you know which charging networks to sign up to, as you might need to sign up to more than one provider, for stress free charging on route and when you arrive at your destination.
