All Wheel Drive, a twin-speed transfer box, Electronic Active Differential and a larger tyre family make Defender our most capable Land Rover. Ever.
Supreme geometry strengthens the vehicle’s all-terrain capability. Its approach angle is 38 degrees1. This is coupled with a breakover angle of up to 31 degrees2 and a departure angle of 40 degrees1.
As competent on-road as it is off. Enjoy refined comfort with independent front and rear suspension, and a choice of coil suspension, or Electronic Air Suspension with Adaptive Dynamics.
Never compromise. The dynamic roof carrying load allows for up to 168kg3. And Defender's static load of 300kg lets you make more of your adventure. So if you want to stay the night, the Rooftop Tent will let you do exactly that.
Defender’s ability to wade up to a depth of 900mm makes water crossings possible.4 The Wade Program in Terrain Response raises the vehicle using Electronic Air Suspension. Wade Sensing visually indicates how close you are to the maximum wading depth of Defender.
Respond to the toughest of demands with Defender’s 3,500kg towing capacity. When specified, Advanced Tow Assist also allows you to reverse a trailer while Defender takes care of the counter steering.
Pulling power and sheer strength are demonstrated with the remote control electric winch5. This has a maximum pulling force of 4,536kg and can be operated up to 45 metres away.

ALL WHEEL DRIVE
When driving across low-traction surfaces such as ice and snow, torque can be balanced between the front and rear wheels, providing greater stability and control.
An additional set of lower gears can prove invaluable in challenging conditions such as steep inclines or declines, off-road driving or when towing.
ELECTRONIC AIR SUSPENSION
Choose from an access height of 40mm below normal ride height, to an extended height of up to 75mm, with a further extended ride height up to an additional 70mm in more extreme off-road conditions.
ELECTRONIC ACTIVE DIFFERENTIAL
This system offers the additional benefit of more traction on corners and more grip off-road. It does so by controlling the slip between the left and right wheels on the rear axle.
CONFIGURABLE TERRAIN RESPONSE
In a world-first for Terrain Response, individually configure the powertrain, steering, differentials and traction control settings to meet your off‑road needs.
Whatever environment you’re in, complete confidence and control is guaranteed. Features include Low Traction Launch, Gradient Release Control and Hill Descent Control.
Delivering a flat ride and optimum control by monitoring body and steering movements up to 500 times a second. This system reacts to driver and terrain inputs by offering continuously variable damper settings between soft and firm extremes.
ALL TERRAIN PROGRESS CONTROL
Set and maintain a steady speed in challenging off-road conditions. All Terrain Progress Control acts much like a low-speed cruise control and functions at speeds between 1mph and 18mph.
PETROL AND DIESEL
Defender offers a range of refined and fuel-efficient Ingenium engines. Choose from advanced petrol or diesel engines.
PETROL MILD HYBRID
Helping to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, the P400 engine harvests and stores energy normally lost during deceleration and redeploys it.
PETROL PLUG-IN HYBRID
Coming late-2020, our P400e Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) engine will bring the benefits of electrification to Defender.
