CELEBRATE DEFENDER A YEAR OF CELEBRATION LAUNCHES WITH AN ICONIC 1KM SILHOUETTE ON THE SANDS OF RED WHARF BAY, UK
Three exclusive limited edition vehicles, and the creation of a huge, temporary work of art at Red Wharf Bay in Anglesey, UK, mark the beginning of a new chapter in the Defender story.
See Nick and Stephen Wilks, nephew and son of Maurice Wilks, discuss the conception of Land Rover at Red Wharf Bay during a family holiday in 1947.
'My father Maurice met his brother on the beach,' reports Stephen Wilks. 'He was explaining the concept for a new idea for a go-anywhere, do-anything vehicle. He made a drawing in the sand of an outline of how he thought the Land Rover could be made.'

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
Conceived in 1947, Land Rover broke the mould as the go-anywhere, multipurpose vehicle ‘for the farmer, the countryman and general industrial use’.
Celebrate 67 years of service across the world as the Land Rover - rechristened Defender in 1990 - marks an exciting new era in the vehicle's history.
Three limited edition Defenders launch in 2015. Heritage and Adventure embody Land Rover’s qualities, and Autobiography unites luxury with capability.
As UK production of the current Defender enters its final phase, Land Rover will use 2015 to celebrate its global automotive icon and look ahead to an all-new family of Defenders.
