    • Our most powerful vehicle yet, the Range Rover Sport SVR is a triumph of automotive engineering. We explain 8 key features behind its record-breaking speed.

The first Land Rover built and designed by our Special Vehicle Operations division, our Range Rover Sport SVR does 0-60mph in 4.5 seconds. We explain the science behind its remarkable speed below.

      1. POWER

It’s the most powerful production Land Rover ever. The 5.0-litre supercharged V8 in the Range Rover Sport SVR now produces 550HP and 680Nm of torque. The result is even better throttle response, stronger acceleration and an even more thrilling driving experience.

      2. ACCELERATION

A more powerful engine means even better performance. This is the fastest Land Rover ever. The top speed is 162mph, while 0–60mph acceleration takes just 4.5 seconds. More important than the numbers is the feeling of absolutely effortless driving enjoyment.

      3. RESPONSE

The modified eight-speed automatic gearbox produces more electrifying performance. The low gear shift times improve acceleration and response. The transmission’s shift strategy has been modified to complement a more dynamic driving style. The throttle is automatically ‘blipped’ to smooth downshifts.

      4. AGILITY

The rear electronic differential locks quickly to an extent that boosts agility and traction. Limited-slip or ‘locking’ differentials are a common feature of high-performance cars. This programming means the new Range Rover Sport SVR accelerates faster on the straight and out of corners with greater stability.

      5. STEERING

The electric power-assisted steering serves up a sporty driving experience. This variable-ratio speed-sensitive system has the weight to give the driver a more connected feel, boosting responsiveness and driving enjoyment.

      6. HANDLING

A high-performance car needs exemplary handling. To improve agility and steering response, the suspension air springs have been modified to add composure, while the revised adaptive damper settings also increase agility. The pioneering active roll control system has been further modified to ensure flatter, faster cornering.

      7. SOUND

To ensure the aural thrills of the SVR match the dynamic ones, the Land Rover team has designed a deep growl with increased diameter under-floor exhaust pipes and new quad exhaust pipes protruding from a redesigned rear bumper. Unique internal valves allow greater exhaust flow at higher revs, while fuel is not cut off on the overrun when the car is in Dynamic mode – giving a pronounced ‘crackle’.

      8. STYLE

A host of styling features aid performance. These include a new rear spoiler (boosting aerodynamic stability), as well as larger air intakes in the muscular front bumper to channel air to the engine. There are also wheel arch extensions when the bigger 22-inch wheels are specified. Inside, leather sports seats provide additional lateral support.
