THE UNVEILING OF THE RANGE ROVER VELAR
  1. THE UNVEILING OF THE RANGE ROVER VELAR

On 1st March 2017, in the celebrated surroundings of London’s iconic Design Museum, a new Range Rover was revealed to the world at a spectacular star-studded event.

    • Following a fevered spell of speculation as to what the Range Rover Velar would look like and where it would sit in the Range Rover family, the groundbreaking SUV was unveiled by Land Rover Chief Design Officer Gerry McGovern.

Addressing the capacity crowd - that counted actors Damian Lewis and Rob Brydon, and British model Poppy Delevingne amongst its numbers – Mr McGovern said of his team’s latest work, “From its stunning exterior silhouette to the calm sanctuary of its clean, sophisticated interior… this is a vehicle with emotionally charged DNA and unquestionable pedigree.”

Designed, engineered and manufactured in the UK, the Range Rover Velar fills the white space between the Range Rover Evoque and the Range Rover Sport.

The Range Rover Velar’s eye-catching design is born of a sense of cutting-edge modernism and honed reductionism, as highlighted by the vehicle’s striking proportions, flush deployable door handles and burnished copper coloured detailing on the front bumper blades and fender vents.

This less-is-more high-tech ethos has also been continued into the vehicle’s interior technology with Land Rover’s state-of-the-art infotainment system, Touch Pro Duo, debuting in the Range Rover Velar. Dubbed ‘The Blade’ by the system’s development engineers, owing to its slender profile and clean surfaces, the two high definition 10-inch touchscreens are connected to a pioneering and intelligent infotainment system that learns from its owner, anticipating his or her needs to make for a more enhanced and enjoyable driving experience*.

The origin of the Velar name dates back to the first Range Rover prototypes of the late 1960s. When development engineers needed to hide the identity of the 26 pre-production Range Rovers, they chose the name Velar, derived from the Latin velare meaning to veil or cover.

“The Range Rover Velar brings a new dimension of glamour, modernity and elegance to the brand. It changes everything”, added Mr McGovern.
