HANNAH WHITE, LAND ROVER AMBASSADOR IN QUEST TO BREAK THE WOMEN’S WORLD SPEED SAILING RECORD

Land Rover Ambassador Hannah White has today announced that she will be attempting to become the first woman to set the speed sailing record above the 40 knot barrier on Speedbird; a purpose built state-of-the-art sailing hydrofoil.


The record attempt will take place in early 2016 and Hannah will, in the meanwhile, be undertaking intensive training to prepare herself for the mental and physical challenge ahead. She said “I am by no means a professional when it comes to the hydrofoil so I will be learning from scratch.”


Despite being a newcomer to this sailboat, Hannah is no stranger to intense challenges and her technique, strength and determination will be put to the test during this record attempt on the state of the art hydrofoil.


Built in collaboration with Land Rover, this 6-metre hydrofoil has a hull that weighs only 8kg. Land Rover’s innovation, engineering expertise and industry leading facilities will be put to use in the building of this unique sailboat.


The collaboration comes from Land Rover’s long-standing commitment to the sport of sailing and shared philosophy of going Above and Beyond.


Hannah, who has sailed the Atlantic solo three times and completed the gruelling Haute Route Cycling Race said “This will undoubtedly be the toughest challenge of my life: a culmination of speed, precision, and determination, combined with cutting edge innovation and engineering. It’s a really ambition project both technologically and physically.”


Hannah announced her attempt at the Science Museum in London, UK where the prototype of her boat will be on display for two days, giving thousands of people the opportunity to learn about the technology and engineering behind Speedbird.

The project mirrors Land Rover’s aspiration to go Above and Beyond and push the boundaries of what is possible. Using our class leading facilities and advance engineering expertise, we will help push the boat to its physical limits and get Hannah into the record books.

The figures provided are NEDCeq calculated from official manufacturer’s WLTP tests in accordance with EU legislation. For comparison purposes only. Real world figures may differ. CO2 and fuel economy figures may vary according to wheel fitment and optional extras fitted. NEDCeq are figures calculated using a Government formula from WLTP figures equivalent to what they would have been under the old NEDC test. The correct tax treatment can then be applied.

The figures provided are WLTP. WLTP is the new official EU test used to calculate standardised fuel consumption and CO2 figures for passenger cars. It measures fuel, energy consumption, range and emissions. This is designed to provide figures closer to real-world driving behaviour. It tests vehicles with optional equipment and with a more demanding test procedure and driving profile.

TEL (Test Energy Low) and TEH (Test Energy High) figures are shown as a range under WLTP testing measures. TEL refers to the lowest/most economical figures (with the lightest set of options). TEH refers to the highest/least economical figures (with the heaviest set of options). WLTP legislation dictates that where there is <5g CO2 variance between TEL and TEH, only the TEH is declared.
