An 18-hour blizzard, frozen rivers, towering dunes of black volcanic sand, windswept glaciers and the Reykjavik rush hour all provided exhilarating challenges for 50 international journalists sampling the Land Rover Discovery 3 on a recent series of ´adventure drives´ in Iceland.
The drives were designed to showcase both the on-road and off-road prowess of the Discovery, but some unseasonably harsh autumn weather really dialled up the challenges for one group. Blue skies, brilliant sunshine and spectacular views of the Icelandic highlands on day one were replaced with driving snow and visibility down to just a few metres on day two. After leaving their remote campsite in the early morning, the convoy didn´t reach the tarmac just 25kms away until 1am the next day.
With journalists attending from the USA, Australia, Japan and across Europe, the events generated enthusiastic coverage and spectacular images in a wide variety of newspapers, motoring magazines and lifestyle titles.
